Xbox Emulator Setup

Xbox emulation needs more preparation than most classic systems. Start with a game known to work in your chosen emulator.

Original Xbox with Xemu​

Xemu needs system files prepared before the first game starts.

  1. Install Xemu from Platforms.
  2. Open Xemu.
  3. Add the required flash, MCPX, and hard-disk files.
  4. Confirm one game starts inside Xemu.
  5. Add an Xbox system in HyperHQ.
  6. Select Xemu and your game folder.

Xemu uses shared hard-disk and EEPROM data. Back up the full Xemu data folder before restore work.

Original Xbox with Cxbx-Reloaded​

Cxbx-Reloaded works with supported extracted Xbox games.

  1. Install Cxbx-Reloaded from Platforms.
  2. Test the game inside Cxbx-Reloaded.
  3. Add an Xbox system in HyperHQ.
  4. Select the game folder and Cxbx-Reloaded.

Game compatibility differs from Xemu. Use the emulator where your game already works.

Xbox 360 with Xenia​

  1. Install Xenia from Platforms.
  2. Open Xenia and test one game.
  3. Add an Xbox 360 system in HyperHQ.
  4. Select your game folder and Xenia.
  5. Finish setup and test the HyperSpin launch.

HyperHQ installs Xenia in portable mode. Keep its configuration and game data with the platform folder when moving the installation.

Common problems​

Xemu opens without a game​

Confirm the game path works inside Xemu and the required system files remain selected.

Xenia closes during launch​

Open the same game directly in Xenia. Compatibility or missing game files usually produce the same result outside HyperHQ.

A game folder imports several entries​

Keep one launchable file per game folder when possible. Hide duplicate entries or use game variations for alternate releases.
