Computer Emulator Setup

Computer games often need more than one file. Keep each game in its own folder and preserve the original folder layout.

DOSBox​

HyperHQ recognizes DOSBox configuration files, executables, command files, and packaged DOS games.

  1. Install DOSBox from Platforms.
  2. Put each game in its own folder.
  3. Add a Microsoft MS-DOS system.
  4. Select the parent game folder.
  5. Select DOSBox.

A DOSBox conf file offers the most reliable launch target because the file stores mounts and startup commands.

eXoDOS​

The eXoDOS integration uses Windows launcher folders and batch scripts. These steps apply to Windows. For Linux, configure DOSBox or another supported native platform with your game files; the eXoDOS Windows wrapper flow is unavailable.

  1. Finish the eXoDOS installation.
  2. Confirm games start from the eXoDOS launcher.
  3. Add an MS-DOS system in HyperHQ.
  4. Select the existing eXoDOS project folder.

Do not move individual game scripts out of the collection. Their relative paths point back to the packaged tools and game files.

ScummVM​

ScummVM launches games by its internal game ID.

  1. Add each game inside ScummVM first.
  2. Confirm the game starts in ScummVM.
  3. Add ScummVM manually from Platforms.
  4. Add the matching system in HyperHQ.
  5. Use the ScummVM game IDs as launch entries.

A normal game-folder path does not replace the ScummVM ID.

Commodore Amiga​

Use FS-UAE or WinUAE for an existing Amiga setup.

  1. Add your Kickstart ROM inside the emulator.
  2. Test an ADF, IPF, HDF, or configured game.
  3. Add the emulator manually from Platforms.
  4. Add a Commodore Amiga system.
  5. Select the library folder and matching file types.

Multi-disk games work best as one playlist or one game entry with disc variations.

Acorn Archimedes with Arculator​

Arculator uses an emulator profile instead of a normal ROM-path command. Keep the launch setting supplied by HyperHQ.

  1. Configure Arculator and its ROM image.
  2. Add Arculator manually from Platforms.
  3. Add an Acorn Archimedes system.
  4. Select your ADF, ADL, ZIP, or 7Z library.

Commodore and MSX​

Use VICE for Commodore computers and openMSX for MSX systems. Add each emulator manually after one game works outside HyperHQ.

Separate each computer family into its own HyperHQ system. BIOS needs and file types differ between models.

Common problems​

Setup opens instead of the game​

Choose the game-specific conf file or launch script. Remove setup and installer files from the selected extensions.

A game loses access to its files​

Keep the working files beside the launch target. Computer games often expect data relative to their starting folder.
