Per-system Wheel Sounds
Give each system its own scrolling sounds. HyperSpin chooses a random audio file from the active pool whenever you scroll.
| Media type | When the pool plays |
|---|---|
SFX - Main Menu | When the system is highlighted while scrolling the main menu. |
SFX - System | While scrolling games inside the system. |
Both pools belong to the system. SFX - Main Menu does not replace the global main-menu sound pack.
These pools affect scrolling only. Entering a system, leaving a system, and loading a wheel use the existing global cues. Music uses separate media and settings.
Choose a sound pack in HyperHQ
Both SFX types use the normal media workflow.
- Open Media in HyperHQ.
- Find a sound pack for your system with the type
SFX - Main MenuorSFX - System. - Select Apply and wait for the download to finish.
- Open Details to preview the installed audio.
- Restart HyperSpin and test the main menu and the system's game wheel.
Use Update or Re-download to maintain the pack. The system's Media tab shows System Wheel Sounds and Main Menu Wheel Sounds with audio previews. See Managing Media for the catalog and download workflow.
Sync sound packs
Open Settings > HyperHQ > Cache > Sync Media Settings > Configure. In Refresh Options, select SFX - System, SFX - Main Menu, or both. Select Continue, then choose Check Missing Files or Delete and Refresh.
The SFX choices are independent of music. Select the sound types for each sync run.
For one system, open its Refresh chooser and select Media. Under System-Level Media in Refresh Media, choose SFX - Main Menu, SFX - System, or both. Select Continue, then choose Check Missing & Updated or Delete & Re-download.
Add your own sounds
Open HyperHQ's Settings > Paths to find your configured HyperSpin folder. Place audio files directly inside these override folders:
[HyperSpin]/Media/[System Name]/SFX - Main Menu/
[HyperSpin]/Media/[System Name]/SFX - System/
Use the system's display name or name for [System Name]. Keep filenames of your choice. Files do not need to match a game or ROM name.
Example:
Media/
Sega Genesis/
SFX - Main Menu/
menu-click.mp3
menu-blip.wav
SFX - System/
scroll-one.ogg
scroll-two.mp3
One file is enough for a pool. Add more files for random selection. Keep the audio files directly inside the SFX folder.
Supported extensions: .mp3, .wav, .ogg, .flac, .aac, .m4a, and .opus.
To manage files through HyperHQ, open Media Audit from the systems list and select the SFX media type. Drop sound files onto one system card or use Select Media. The audit treats supported audio files as one optional system pool. A pool accepts any number of files, without game-name matching. SFX audit does not report missing media or require a sound for each game. Empty pools use the selected-pack or global fallback. Use Play / Pause Sound to preview audio. HyperHQ uploads accept files up to 20 MB each. See Media Overrides for folder management.
Restart HyperSpin after adding, removing, or replacing sound files so the wheel media cache refreshes.
Override and fallback order
HyperSpin resolves a scrolling pool in this order:
- A local override folder containing supported audio files.
- The installed catalog pack selected for the system and SFX type.
- The existing global HyperSpin scrolling SFX.
An empty override folder, missing folder, unreadable folder, or folder without supported audio files falls through to the selected installed pack. Without a usable installed pack, HyperSpin uses the global SFX which ship with HyperSpin.
Overrides take priority without clearing your catalog selection. Remove the override audio files or clear the override pool in HyperHQ to restore the selected installed pack.
Clear Override and Delete Override remove the supported audio files for the entire system pool and SFX type. To remove one clip, delete only the chosen audio file from the override folder.
If a chosen custom audio file fails during playback, HyperSpin tries a global scrolling sound once. Playback failure does not start another catalog-pool search.
Select the global sound pack under Settings > HyperSpin > Sound > Sound Pack. The global Subtle setting controls the scrolling fallback. A per-system pool takes priority while present.
Windows and Linux
Use the same media type and folder names on both platforms. The paths above are relative to your configured HyperSpin folder.
Preserve folder capitalization on Linux, including SFX - Main Menu and SFX - System. Keep the media drive mounted at the configured path and give HyperSpin read access to the audio files.
Check your setup
- Scroll across the system on the main menu and listen for its Main Menu pool.
- Enter the system and scroll through games to hear its System pool.
- Enter and leave the system to confirm the normal global cues.
- Clear an override pool, restart HyperSpin, and check the selected catalog fallback.
- With neither local overrides nor an installed selected pack, check the bundled global scrolling sounds.
If only global scrolling sounds play, check the system folder name, SFX folder spelling, file extensions, and selected pack's download status. Test the audio files in another player to check for corrupt files.
