Dynamic Collections and Tags
A normal collection contains games you select. A dynamic collection uses rules and updates as matching games change.
Create a dynamic collection
- Open Collections.
- Select Add Collection.
- Enter a name and description.
- Choose Dynamic Collection.
- Add one or more rules.
- Preview the matching games.
- Save the collection.
The collection appears in HyperHQ and HyperSpin with the games matching its rules.
Start with one rule
Use one clear rule first, such as:
- Genre is Racing
- Players is 2
- Year is between 1990 and 1999
- Favorite is On
- Tag contains Light Gun
Preview the results before adding another rule.
Combine rules
Use Match all when every rule should apply. A collection for four-player arcade racing games might use:
- System is Arcade
- Genre is Racing
- Players is 4
Use Match any when one of several values should include a game. A Sega collection might match Genesis, Sega CD, or Sega 32X.
Add custom tags
Tags cover details outside normal metadata.
- Open a game in HyperHQ.
- Add a short tag, such as Light Gun, Vertical, Trackball, or Family Night.
- Save the game.
- Use the tag in a dynamic collection rule.
Keep tags consistent. Light Gun and Lightgun become separate values.
Check collection results
Open the collection after changing game metadata or tags. The game list updates from the saved rules.
If an expected game is missing, open the game and compare each field with the rule.
Choose collection media
Open the collection and add a collection logo, background, or theme. Collection media stays separate from the member games.
Common problems
A rule returns no games
Check spelling and exact values. Start with one rule, confirm the results, then add the remaining rules.
Too many games appear
Use Match all or add a system rule to narrow the result.
A tag rule misses one game
Open the game and use the same tag spelling used by the collection.
See Creating Collections for normal collection setup and media.
