Pinball FX Steam Setup

HyperHQ includes a guided wizard for setting up Pinball FX games that launch through Steam.

  1. Systems → Add System
  2. Select Category: "Pinball"
  3. Select System: Pick one of:
    • Pinball FX (Steam App ID: 2328760)
    • Pinball FX2 (Steam App ID: 226980)
    • Pinball FX3 (Steam App ID: 442120)
  4. Point to Game Folder — select the folder containing your .fxt table files
    • Default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Pinball FX\PinballFX\Mods\Cabinet\Data\
    • The wizard shows a note reminding you to point to this Data folder
  5. Extensions auto-populate — the wizard automatically sets: fxt|pxp|zip|7z
  6. Steam Launch step — toggle "Yes" to launch through Steam
    • HyperHQ auto-detects steam.exe (or browse manually if not found)
    • The command line is configured automatically behind the scenes
    • HyperHQ creates a dedicated emulator (e.g., "Steam - Pinball FX") so it won't conflict with other Steam systems
  7. Save — complete the wizard to create the system with the Steam emulator configured

After Setup​

Launch a table through HyperHQ to verify everything's working — the game should start via Steam and load the selected table.

Table Files​

Table data files (.fxt) live in the data folder inside your Pinball FX installation:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Pinball FX\PinballFX\Mods\Cabinet\Data\

Each .fxt file is named Table {number}.fxt and corresponds to a specific pinball table. The full mapping is in the table reference below, originally sourced from the Steam Community Table List.

Sample Data Files

Don't want to create these manually? Download the sample Data.zip with pre-made .fxt files for all tables. Extract the Data folder to PinballFX\Mods\Cabinet\ inside your Pinball FX installation.

Troubleshooting​

Tables not appearing​

  • Make sure .fxt files are in the PinballFX\Mods\Cabinet\Data folder — not the top-level Data folder
  • Verify the extension filter includes fxt
  • Ensure the ROM path points to the correct Data folder

Game doesn't launch​

  • Verify Steam is installed and running
  • Check that the steam.exe path is correct in the emulator settings
  • If you also have a Steam library system set up, make sure Pinball FX has its own dedicated emulator (e.g., "Steam - Pinball FX") rather than sharing the generic "Steam" one
